Sheena Velasco RN, BSN, MN, IBCLC
I have always had a passion for maternal, newborn, and child health/well-being. Upon completing of my Bachelor of Science in Nursing I began working as a neonatal nurse at B.C. Women’s Hospital and later at Alberta Children’s Hospital; caring for both provinces most vulnerable newborns and families. I have accumulated 10 years of experience as a neonatal nurse.
Despite my love of neonatal nursing, I hoped to find a way to make a substantial difference in the care of Mothers and Infants. With this in mind I completed my Master of Nursing with a focus in teaching in 2015, and became an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2017.
In addition to lactation consulting, I currently support newborns and families as a Registered Nurse in the NICU and Postpartum units of the hospital, as well as actively providing Maternity Care in the community. I am also currently a higher-education instructor teaching specialty skills to nurses province-wide.
I have also had the pleasure and bonding experience of breastfeeding my own son, which further ignited my passion and desire to help other Mothers give this same gift to their child.
When I am not working or expanding my knowledge on all things Mother and Infant, I enjoy spending time with my son and family.
I look forward to sharing my knowledge, experience, and passion for newborn and maternal well-being through supporting you in your breastfeeding journey!
